So with Nanowrimo gleaming on the horizon there are a couple of things running through my mind at the moment:
1) before that time, I would really like to finish “Signals”. I have the whole thing plotted out to the end, all I need is some incentive to write the damn thing out. It’s “Shards” all over again. What could give me the incentive to finish this?
2) I have the vaguest plot idea of a couple of broke students who subject to medical testing in some facility where things go rather wrong and the boy of the couple has this nervous breakdown which makes him become abusive – bit by bit. But I have no idea if there’d be even a bit of a plot in that, I just like the concept.
It’s based on those medical testing ads in the paper that give me the jitters- it’s always drugs for people with Alzheimers or depression or something. Who would willingly subject their brain to something that might fuck with it that badly? Someone on drugs, I suppose. Maybe he’s lying about the fact that he’s on drugs, and he has some reaction to it. But what then? What could possibly happen then that’s still interesting and fresh? It’s just a concept anyway. But I’ve been tossing it around for a week now, and there might be some potential there.
2) Then there’s something else that I stumbled on the other day – the old Kalatin project that we’re never going to do anyway. The whole concept of magic eating your brain, so forcing people/slaves to use magic for you… razzias where ‘useless’ people are snatched off the street by governments, and returning from their duties as a vegetable or a drooling wreck. Everyone would try very hard to be useful to society at any cost, lest they’re on for magic duty. Also a great concept, and it would give me the opportunity to write a fantasy epic thing again… something I haven’t done in a long time. So that’s also interesting.
We’ll just see I suppose… I need to work first on getting “Signals” sorted… sleep on this stuff. I would like to write again. Maybe it’s time.
I know, I still need to finish the monster story but doubt I’ll manage, no inspiration. Maybe on the train….
I like both of the ideas. nr 2 is a lot like Tad William’s War of the Flowers. Though competely different as well of course. *s*
Cant wait to see what you decide!! And yay for autumn and NaNo planning!! =)
