In a bit of a last-minute decision I decided to go and vote anyway. I don’t really care for local politics all that much, since I never know who to vote for and I’m never very connected to my hometown either how. But since it is my duty as a citizen, I looked up all of the party statements and this afternoon I was working from home anyway, so Olli and I took Bodhi for a walk to go and vote at the local townhouse.
I voted D66, if you want to know. They sounded the sanest on their local website, although that doesn’t say much of course. On local level it really doesn’t make all that much of a difference to me.
However, when the REAL national voting comes, I’ll be sure to vote D66 again. At this point they have really been one of the sanest voices in the craziest political times I’ve ever seen. I’m glad I backed them when they pulled the plug on the cabinet in 2006; they took a huge hit over it, but they’ve come back strong and clear – for as far as you can be strong and clear under these political circumstances. I’m not agreeing with them on all subjects, but it’s as close as I can reasonably get. And yay sanity!
Main problem with D66 to me is that they don’t always vote where their mouth is, and I don’t mean in the way that can happen when things are negotiated away. They have a mouth full about privacy, for instance, yet backed quite a few of the things that went against that. As of yet, I’m undecided on the national level.
Didn’t go voting myself, because my county is merging per 1/11, so there will be elections in november for the new county.
Same here (D66) although for my deelgemeente I voted for Groenlinks because they’re against cutting all the trees in our neighbourhood which the council’s currently doing.
