After an excellent halloween party last night, and going to bed at 5am or something, Bren, Tijs and I whipped out our laptops at 1pm and started writing.

2pm: w00t my first 1000 words. pfff sleep-deprived writing ftl
3pm: hour 2: 1971 words… slowly but steady. still tired as hell though
4pm: hitting 3K as we speak. steady as she goes…

I then took a shower, and now I’m getting back in the fray again at 5pm
Let’s see if I can keep this 1K an hour up… it’s a bit meagre to my standards, but I’m rusty, starting a new story, and I’m sleep deprived as all hell at the moment. So it could be worse

5.30pm: 4K
9pm: 5169 words, and my first chapter is done. I have a bit of troubles with the size of the cast I’ve introduced all at once. I hope this is working; that everyone is properly introduced and that everyone has a face and a voice. So far we have Adam and Julie, our titular heroes. We have Sid, Adam’s best friend. And Esthelle, Sid’s gorgeous girlfriend. There’s Ricardo, who’s an old studypal of Adam’s. Sara, Adam’s red-haired foster sister. And eventually there’s Francine (Julie’s best friend) and Mark, who have a baby on the way. So far the foreshadowing and the characterization is a bit ham-fisted and I hope to get a bit more subtle later on.
But it’s been fun. And today I’ve already written more than the rest of the year combined, so that’s a good start!
