After my first half hour with Rebel, my bass of awesomeness, I already know three things:
1) I need longer fingers!
2) I need calluses on aforementioned fingers!
3) Hell to the fucking no that I’m ready to play with the boys anytime soon. Or possibly ever 
It was fun though. I just hope it’ll go a bit better soon…
Point 3 was the reason I dropped my guitar lessons, 20-ish years ago, so I know what you mean

The nails are not an option. I think it’s even better to keep them real short. But I need to reach the strings, so that’s why I need the long fingers
Ah yes, calluses are the way to go when playing a string instrument.
And in the beginning you do get better really fast, because every time you practice you’re better than you were before. No upkeep needed yet…
