august burns red

The thing with my taste in music taste is… it varies. It depends on mood and state of being, I always thought. Last year around this time, I was so much more in a metal state of mind than I am these days. I mean, if you looked what I was playing enthusiastically last year around this time… that was Soilwork and In Flames. Most played bands this year, before June? The White Lies, Starsailor, Snow Patrol. So, I mused thoughtfully in that music-snob kind of way, sitting in the tram on the way home one early evening a couple of days ago, what happened? Did I mellow out? Am I in a more quiet state of mind these days?

And then today came around, and I realized that in the past month, what have I been playing most? Killswitch Engage, Enter Shikari. And what’s now on repeat today? The latest album of August Burns Red (‘Constellations’. It’s excellent!). And then I realized… it’s not REALLY what state of mind I’m in. Or at least, that isn’t the whole reason of it.

It’s just that I hadn’t discovered any new great metal(core) bands, and the ones that I liked hadn’t had any great new albums out yet. ;)

So now I’m diving in the wonderful new world of August Burns Red (which is kind of As I Lay Dying meets Parkway Drive, very nice and screamy!), and this fall Soilwork will have a new album out. And so we come full circle again. I’m as much a fan of indie/britpop/alternative rock as I am of metalcore. :D
