(2) ... then taxes and spends too much, bankrupts country, becomes unpopular, (3) Conservative government wins landslide, cuts spending and taxes, very popular ... (4) ... then spends too little, country no longer bankrupt, emotive pictures of small children made homeless by strict government policy, becomes unpopular, (5) Labour government wins landslide. Repeat from (1). Currently we're at (2), with Labour's natural tendency to take a bath in public funds exacerbated by a worldwide recession. I'm expecting the pound to dip below the Euro before it's done tanking. It’s the classic British story:

(1) Labour government spends a lot on welfare, very popular …
(2) … then taxes and spends too much, bankrupts country, becomes unpopular,
(3) Conservative government wins landslide, cuts spending and taxes, very popular …
(4) … then spends too little, country no longer bankrupt, emotive pictures of small children made homeless by strict government policy, becomes unpopular,
(5) Labour government wins landslide. Repeat from (1).

Currently we’re at (2), with Labour’s natural tendency to take a bath in public funds exacerbated by a worldwide recession.

I’m expecting the pound to dip below the Euro before it’s done tanking.
