and suddenly it lifts the roof off the place

I’m not sure I believe in reiki. So many things can be coincedence, but I know what I felt during the initiation, and I know what happened afterwards. Lots of it can be concentration, mindpower and coincedence. But here’s a list of ‘coincedences’ since the reiki thing anyway:

- The feeling as if someone was rolling a magnet over my hands during initiation
- The way my hands tingle during reiki – but only the mouse of my hand, my thumbs and index fingers
- The way my hands get warm when I give someone reiki
- I picked out the spot on Wendy’s back that’s bothered her with RSI in the day. It’s still a weak spot. I had no idea, I thought it was her shoulder that was fucked up with RSI back then. I was giving her treatment, and I didn’t want to leave that spot. When I commented that out loud, Wendy told me this was her old RSI spot, and it turns out that these kinds of spot ‘want’ more energy, and thus if you’re in tune, you ‘want’ to give energy a bit longer/more. That was the freakiest moment for me.
- The terribly peaceful way I fell asleep when I gave myself reiki last night, and the dreamless, wonderful sleep I enjoyed.
- How Bako sat really still while I gave him reiki to his painful hind leg. Normally you’re not allowed to touch him there. He hops away or he shifts position to see wtf you’re doing.
- And the fact that my nosebleed (I’d been picking at it, bad me) resolved itself in LESS than five minutes, whereas last times I’ve been occupied for nearly fifteen minutes before it let up.

So yeah, maybe it’s all coincedences. But they’re very funny and interesting, nonetheless. And I’ll keep collecting these ‘coincedences’ as I practice my l33t reiki skills. Let’s see if I can get a definite ‘yes’ for myself. I’ve heard other people’s stories, but I want to make my own.

I have exactly the same thing as you have. I am not sure what to believe either. But here’s some interesting facts:

    - As of last Sunday, my hands are no longer perpetually cold. Even Arno notices it. When they get a little cold I activate Reiki and they warm up.
    - I have reiki’d away my headache twice. It’s not imagination. It helps with my headache which never goes away without either a painkiller or three hours of sleep.
    - I reiki’d away Arno’s head and backache yesterday. He didn’t know what hit him. He also said that my hands felt as if they were glowing.
    - After Marian focused on my plexus solaris I felt so much more relaxed. I could take a business call I was not prepared for at all without any trepidation. Usually I get completely stuttery and nervous. Not yesterday.

It might be coincidence, I don’t know. Or self-hypnosis, or a powerful placebo effect. I don’t really care either – it has done something for me and that’s what’s most important to me ;)

Where did you take that Reiki initiation? I’ve heard Reiki might actually work for irritable bowel syndrom as well, and while I’m not really sure it would, if it does it would be so great! I can’t travel to a lot of places I’d like to visit because of the IBS, and there’s no regular medical treatment available.

One of the people (he was an intern with the lady I did my initiation) who was present last Sunday, said he used it for his own IBS all the time. Reiki gives energy to the places in your body that need it the most, and it finds its own way. I could try and help you out. But since IBS is something that regularly returns for no reason whatsoever, it would be short term… but it does give relief. Or is said to give relief, I’m still not sure on the fact I really believe in it. I’ve yet to find my own proof… but you’re more than welcome to be my guinea pig. Reiki can’t hurt, it’s never dangerous. :)
Worst case scenario it just doesn’t work…

I’d be happy to be your guinea pig! If it doesn’t work, it’s too bad, but if it does, it would make my life a whole lot better. In the end I also want to learn Reiki myself though. My sister has been having back problems for years, so if I could help her out (and myself) with that…

From the sidelines I have the same problem. I have a hard time working out the contradictions I between what I see/hear, and my rational and generally scientific upbringing.
    - From different sources I consider reliable (such as yourselves) there’s much talk of the “coincidences” mentioned above. It would seem there is ample proof.
    - Scientifically speaking, you can’t prove something doesn’t exist, but you can prove something does. This is what bugs me the most. Given the ample apparent evidence, you’d suspect Reiki would be accepted as ‘working’. Yet, as far as i can tell as layman, that isn’t even close to being the case. While I don’t doubt that skepsis from the medical world doesn’t help Reiki’s case, it’s too easy to just blame it on that.
    - Not having been there, I get the impression it’s not hard to do.
    - I have a problem with ‘it can never hurt’. If you can manipulate energy flows and balances, I would suspect that could be used in both ways.

So far it’s a bit confusing, and a such, quite fascinating :D

-It’s never been presented as a miracle cure; also it was never as widely accepted as acupuncture, for example. It was exclusive for people who wanted to pay 10K dollars at first, and only now it’s starting to get more widely known. Maybe that helps with getting that a bit more into perspective. Reiki just had a really false start, I think.

-The ‘not hurting’ thing is really true; it’s a healing energy. The whole idea of it is that this is the foundation of life and love and healing, so to be infused with that… It really never hurts :) (that’s the general idea anyway)
