Okay, so I’m up for judgment. Olli thinks it is yet another example of my nuttiness, but I wanted to share this one with you all and see what you think. I know for a fact that I am not alone in this, but I’m not quite sure whether the other person who does this is a bit nutty. So let me know! I welcome your opinion!
Anyway; here’s the case. A while ago on Postsecret somebody confessed that s/he always tries to park his/her car somewhere where it can watch the sunset.
And that made me smile, because it made me realize that I kind of do the same thing with my bicycle.
You see, a while ago I returned to my bike on HS station after a day of work and all the other bikes around it were gone, except for one. A blue mountainbike – a male mountainbike. And the mountainbike and my bicycle were leaning against each other in that romantic way you see sometimes on postcards. I was all warm and fuzzy inside and thought: ‘Aw, my bike made a friend!’
Next morning, the blue bike was still there, so I parked my own bike next to it again.
The day thereafter somebody stole the saddle of the blue bike and I was pissed off when I noticed. Its owner apparently is, too – because he (I assume it’s a guy) simply hasn’t picked up his bike ever since. So now his blue bike is all lonely in the bikerack, day and night. Despite other bikes getting parked there, I always try to park my bike next to the blue mountainbike. So it has a friend at least.
When other bikes are parked next to it and I have to park my bike elsewhere in the racks, I feel all guilty and sorry for the mountainbike. But usually there’s a spot right next to it, so I gleefully set my bike next to his.
…So tell me, am I a nutter?
I probably am, right. Writing this out and saying this aloud in my head makes me sound nutty ![]()
Still, I can’t help myself.
Pfah, sanity is overrated and the world is your narrativist playground if you want it to be. So antropomorphize away, is my advice
(okay, I just really wanted to use that word, but the point still stands)
I spend way too much of my time trying to find viewing angles in which random objects in my surroundings align perfectly. Completely useless and it makes me squint weirdly sometimes, but it just feels good whenever something does line up…
Lots of people have weird little quirks, I guess. Just don’t mention them at a job interview and you should be good… :p
I always park Iggy under a tree to give her cover from rain and keep her in the shade, especially in the summer. And though locigally it makes sense as the car can get really hot, I tend to do it so that she’ll feel better waiting for me. Also I park her in the corner spots. Never out in the open completely so she wont feel too vulnerable.
Havent really thought about these before. It just always made sense to do so.
Eh, it’s no crazier than silently narrating your day to yourself… which I haven’t done in a while, but used to do all the time. Personally I never think twice about where I park my bike but I certainly don’t think you’re a nutter.
