Releasing anger

July 5th, 2001

Just watched a fragment of the english version of History of Trunks again. It has an awesome soundtrack by Dream Theater, by the way, but that besides the point I want to make. It’s a TV special about Mirai Trunks in an alternate future, where most of the world is destroyed. The most painful moment in that TV Special, the one that made all DBZ fans either shiver or cry, was the moment that 13 yr old Trunks arrives at a battlefield where apparently the war is lost. It’s raining, and Dream Theater’s guitar music is heartwrenching as Trunks discovers his friend and mentor Gohan lying in the rubble, his face in a puddle. Obviously dead.
“Oh my god no…” he stammers. He looks down upon his fallen friend. “What did they do to you Gohan?” He begins to cry. “You’re my best friend… you mean everything to me…” His tears mingle with the rain. His voice breaks. “Everything…” Trunks falls down on his knees, and turns Gohan over. “This just isnt fair…” Gohan’s eyes stare at the heavens.
“Gohan…” Trunks hugs his dead friend, calls out to him. “Gohan….!”
And then realisation dawns. He throws his head in his neck and yells: “Gooooohan!!!!!” …on which incoherent screaming full of rage and loss follows. It’s awful to hear, so full of emotion and raw pain.
I really don’t know what point I tried to make with writing this down, besides the fact that it’s a beautiful painful and intense fragment, and that it shows that the makers of DBZ have some true genius.
I ached all over when I saw this.
And somewhere deep inside I wish I could release my anger like that. Scream like that. I wonder if it would help me.
