I voted D66, if you want to know. They sounded the sanest on their local website, although that doesn’t say much of course. On local level it really doesn’t make all that much of a difference to me.

However, when the REAL national voting comes, I’ll be sure to vote D66 again. At this point they have really been one of the sanest voices in the craziest political times I’ve ever seen. I’m glad I backed them when they pulled the plug on the cabinet in 2006; they took a huge hit over it, but they’ve come back strong and clear – for as far as you can be strong and clear under these political circumstances. I’m not agreeing with them on all subjects, but it’s as close as I can reasonably get. And yay sanity!

Discounting terror-links and God knows what else the people are scaring eachother with these days… What the HELL could possess someone to do a thing like that? Is this something insane like the guy that took what he thought was the Philips building in Amsterdam hostage in 2002 because he hated the broadview TVs? What kind of motivation could this dude possibly have?

I usually don’t comment on world news like the current financial crisis that I thought is a bit overhyped (here in NL) anyway, but this kind of blindsided me. I knew the GBP was doing shitty at the moment, I even commented on it and cheerfully went to amazon.co.uk to celebrate by buying shitloads of DVD’s… but this is something the world’s never seen before.

Great Britain didn’t want to join the EU coinage because their own coinage was so strong. And look at them now. They could get the Euro and they’d be better for it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not cheeky about it… I think it’s a very shitty thing.  :(

So with a couple of people we decided just what the hell, and after our new year’s party we’re planning to go for the Nieuwjaarsduik. It’s in Scheveningen anyway, we thought. And we’d be in Rijswijk, it’s a tram’s ride away.I just looked up how cold the water usually is in Scheveningen in January, and it’s usually about 5-9 degrees centigrade. Usually around 7C. Which is the equivalent of the cold bath you have after sitting in the sauna. So I think I can do this, and so can everybody else. It’s going to be freaking cold, it’s going to be a very bad idea, but OMG it’ll be awesome

But now I’m checking the website and they’re talking about only 10K people, buying tickets, having to be there early or it’s sold out… etcetc.

It kind of takes the spontaneity out of it, for me. I’d be okay with going to Kijkduin or a little further along the beach in Scheveningen for a dip as well. As long as we have our own blankets and hot tea (and camera’s) – that’d be enough for me. What about you guys?

The other good thing is that the British Pound is really doing lousy at the moment compared to the Euro. It’s about 1,13 Euro’s to a GBP at the moment, so Olli and I did some heavy duty shopping over at our friends of Amazon.co.uk to celebrate the occasion. You gotta take opportunities where they’re presented to you, right?

We’re currently the proud owners of Lost season 4, Battlestar season 3 & BSG Razor, and the full series of Firefly, for the measly amount of 80 euro’s. Including shipping.

So I guess you can figure out where Ol and I are hiding out lately: lying in bed watching DVD’s.
The fourth season of Lost is as excellent as I remembered it; I can’t wait for season 5 to start in January.

I really hope these kids are going to be okay. The chinese government is collectively crazy. Life follows fiction?

Camera in damestoilet Leids restaurant
Stiekem begluurd door camera op het toilet

LEIDEN – Vrouwelijke bezoekers van Italiaans restaurant Sorrento in Leiden blijken jarenlang te zijn begluurd. Het handelen van de dames werd vastgelegd door een camera die verstopt was in de lamp aan het plafond.

De opnameapparatuur werd ontdekt door een bezoekster die meteen de politie inschakelde en aangifte deed van aanranding. Agenten namen de verborgen camera en de daaraan verbonden opnameapparatuur en een hoeveelheid videobanden in beslag.

De eigenaar van het restaurant , Franco di Maio, heeft tegenover de politie verklaard dat hij de apparatuur drie jaar geleden heeft geïnstalleerd omdat hij vermoedde dat op het damestoilet werd gehandeld in drugs.

Volgens een van de medewerkers van Sorrento kwamen agenten met drie volle kratten videobanden naar beneden. ,,Dit was echt een schok. Het laatste jaar was er ook ineens een grote spiegel, waarop je jezelf kon zien als je op het toilet zat. Alle vrouwelijke klanten van de afgelopen jaren staan dus op de film in het toilet.”
