for the good of all of us except the ones who are dead

My boss is home with a lung infection so that means that I am all alone in our office. I was happily plugging away on administration and WIKI articles while outside they are renovating the building. One of the renovations is painting.

They were painting my window frames on the outside, but my windows needed to be open because otherwise they would not be able to reach everywhere. I just kept working – I didn’t notice much of it except for the bloody annoying radio they had on (couldn’t hear my own stuff).
At some point I was getting drinks and one of my colleagues asked if I was okay with the paint fumes. “Yeah, it’s fine,” I said. “I think they’re using water based paint.”
Of course they didn’t. I didn’t realize that it was the real deal until I got nauseated and dizzy with the fucking fumes.

I changed offices now, but I’m still dizzy and find it hard to concentrate.
Fucking anosmia. :(

Work is going GREAT. I’m getting the sweetest evaluations back from my trainees. They’re all but gushing about my training capabilities. What a difference with my former job at GS… Go me :D

back from outer space

…or rather, Belgium. I had a client to train in Belgium today, so I set out on a road trip yesterday afternoon. My work very kindly booked me a hotel in a little village south of Ghent, close to where I had to train. So yesterday afternoon I revved up the Tangy and went on a very uneventful roadtrip to Belgium. (Uneventful save for the crazed maniacs on the road, though. Seriously, I love the Belgians as a people, but please revoke their drivers licenses. All of them. NOW! these people do not believe in indicators, and they take you over from the right side, they also believe in throwing their car before yours at the very last possible moment. i have no idea why they haven’t collectively killed eachother on the roads yet)

My time in the hotel was also rather uneventful. It’s pretty weird to sit in a hotel lobby having dinner on your own, but I brought The Well Of Ascension with me (that’s a NOVEL, people. By Brandon Sanderson. A very fine novel, too! I wasn’t carrying around any wells, because, well, OBVIOUSLY). So I ate and I read a little, and then I went to my hotel room and finished the book while lounging on a comfy bed.
It was a damn good read, can’t wait for book 3. Good thing I have it in possession at the moment, teehee!

I slept like ass though – I was dreaming the dream of someone who knows they have to get up on time, and thus wake up every hour because of dreams about waking up. Very annoying. But because I went to bed at a terribly reasonable hour (11pm), it apparently was enough.

The training went very well, smiles all around. And on the road home I stopped by Wendy in Breda to hang out for a little bit, which was great. The only traffic jam I was in yesterday was at the a13 at Delft, the very same place where I enter traffic jams every day. Fortunately that bit of highway is only about a mile or two before I enter Nuttyville, so it was no big deal. :)

And tomorrow… tomorrow I’ll continue my roadtripping adventures for a training session in Den Bosch. Looks like Tangy and me are friends again. I’m trying not to kill him this time. :’)
