the whole thing i think it’s sick

Because of plumwine and cider on Friday night, I spent most of Saturday lazing about or sleeping. Stupid hangover. It was worth it though, we had a great time on Friday. First I thoroughly cleaned the kitchen (you can’t believe how overdue that was) and then I went shopping with Bren in the Hague. I bought a few Christmas presents for Olli (which I couldn’t resist giving to him on Saturday night, he loved them!), a new vest and new hairdye… and then we went to the Fiddler for beer (Bren) and cider (me). By the time we’d downed two pints Olli and Wendy joined us and we went to the Oni for a sushi-palooza. It was as yummy as last time, and we had lots of talks and laughs.

These only continued after dinner in the Fiddler, where we had more booze. We were in bed way too late, but Olli and I talked the night through with a few very intense and beautiful heart-to-hearts and we went to sleep at seven or something. I woke up with a bloody hangover, unfortunately, so Saturday kind of blew. We had good pasta for dinner and cuddled on the couch while watching bad movies like The Polar Express and Herbie: Fully Loaded. We also watched V for Vendetta, which wasn’t bad either this time. God I love that movie.

Today, however, is laundry day. Laundrypalooza, as Olli and I are calling it, will continue. For real this time. :)

There are some good things that come from the financial crisis all of a sudden… One of them is the fact that we pay LESS than E1,20 for a liter of petrol, which is brilliant. It’s been E1,65 in the past so you can imagine what a relief this is for us car-driving folks.

The other good thing is that the British Pound is really doing lousy at the moment compared to the Euro. It’s about 1,13 Euro’s to a GBP at the moment, so Olli and I did some heavy duty shopping over at our friends of Amazon.co.uk to celebrate the occasion. You gotta take opportunities where they’re presented to you, right?

We’re currently the proud owners of Lost season 4, Battlestar season 3 & BSG Razor, and the full series of Firefly, for the measly amount of 80 euro’s. Including shipping. :D

So I guess you can figure out where Ol and I are hiding out lately: lying in bed watching DVD’s.
The fourth season of Lost is as excellent as I remembered it; I can’t wait for season 5 to start in January. :D

dead set

Through IO9.com I stumbled over something that made me giggle because of the premise: It’s a UK miniseries called Dead Set.
Says IO9
: “If you’ve ever watched an episode of reality TV series Big Brother and wished everybody involved would just get ripped apart by rampaging zombies, then you’re about to feel seriously awesome. The UK miniseries Dead Set is all about what happens to the cast and crew of Big Brother when a zombie plague hits England. The best part? It’s all filmed on the Big Brother set.”

I asked Olli to download it, and man, am I glad we watched it! It’s seriously funny, and gory, and it has a pretty smart plot (yeah, that surprised me too). One of the commenters on IO9 said it best, I think: “I’m surprised that it isn’t just played for laughs. The Big Brother contestants are just as vapid and stupid and irritating as you would expect them to be, but once the zombies start attacking they become almost - how do I say it? - human. The handheld style of camerawork undercuts the bizarre comedy and keeps it in check, so you don’t realize how funny a raging zombie in a wheelchair is until you recall it the next day. Angry wheelchair zombie - heh.”

Anyway, if you’re into zombie movies, go check it out & download it somewhere. It is at times hilarious, and horrible. And I had a great time watching it. :D
(and perhaps it even sparked a bit of inspiration on my own nano plot. Even though that one DOESN’T feature zombies)

sunday evening

I had a great time last night. Cocktails, laughs and dancing — even to the tunes of one of the great dance DJ’s of the nation, quite unexpectedly. Don Diablo (who Lie even recognised by face) played us some nice tunes. It was fun to actually go out with friends again, a bit of a girl’s night but with a small group… definitely a night to remember.

I slept well, and I didn’t have a hangover. But why do I feel so wrung out lately? I mean, work’s busy but it’s not murderous or anything. I sleep so much better than I used to, I make my seven hours a night pretty much every day. Now that I don’t have to get up at 6.30 (or even 6!) anymore, my life has gotten so much easier. I’m an evening person, before 11 am I’m just not worth all that much. So those shifts where I start at 10 make me really happy, even though my evening seems shorter that way… I do have more sleep and feel generally better.

Maybe I have a bit of a flu coming up or something. I’ve been battling headaches all week and I’m low on energy… maybe it’s a flu trying to break through. It could be possible.

Question for you guys btw: who else is watching Rock Nation? It’s seriously the only series I actually sit down to watch; usually with the laptop on my lap doing other stuff, but I think it’s an example of reality TV gone right. I really like the show. :)

Yesterday was a lot of fun. We hung out with Bas & Dagmar, then went for tapas with the four of us… and eventually Olli and I watched Southland Tales - a movie by the maker of Donnie Darko - and went to bed wayyy too late. It was a surprisingly weird but still good movie. Think I need to see it twice to make a bit more of it, understand it more. But now I’m completely utterly knackered, which is not good.
Oh well. You snooze, you lose, right?
Awakeness is where it’s at!!

(now just to REACH that point of awakeness…. we need caffeine, people. LOTS of caffeine!!)

So we finally put those cinema vouchers to good use and went to see The Dark Knight today. It is indeed, an excellent movie. Damn dark and gritty. I loved how they tried to make motivations seem realistic. The origins of Two Face were excellently done, with the fall of Harvey Dent and all; and the Joker was freaky as hell (he didn’t remind me of Heath at all - in contrary of the guy who played the mayor of Gotham, I kept thinking of him as the ageless dude in Lost). It was an awesome spectacle, lots of explosions and lots of awesomeness next to an actual plot.
That was a cinema voucher well-spent. :D

In other news, some freaky stuff on Popo going on right now. Seriously, how sick can people be? I mean, this is the reason why men complain about their psycho ex-girlfriends. I always think it can’t be that bad… but you know, maybe it is. Why the hell are there so many freaky girls out there? No wonder guys are hesitant to commit. :?

Still sick. Sleeping 20 hours a day, a head full of snot, funky dreams/nightmares, coughing my lungs out, not able to function doing whatever. Meh!
But on the bright side, we still have a house ;)
And tonight I’ll be hanging on this couch, watching the Dr Who Season finale :)

Because of Graspop, we’re totally going to miss the first part of the Doctor Who Season 4 Finale, this Saturday.
Which is horrible, because THIS teaser/preview just disturbed the flying fuck out of me. Totally terrifying. If I would have gotten that message I would have wet myself, I think. OMG that was some heavy stuff. Great acting there, too.
And now I have to wait longer to see how everything will actually happen…

The weekend was good :) It all feels like vacation in my head already. I don’t have much to do at work anymore and since this past Friday I feel pretty damn liberated. I had drinks with my colleague K during worktime and to my embarassment the rosé hit me like a ton of bricks and I was pretty sloshed by the time I got on my bike home. Sanne had her graduation party so Ol and I went to get flowers and then we went to Amsterdam (Olli drove, naturally). We had a bit of a party, which was fun :)

Ol and I slept at Derek & Sanne’s place because Saturday he would be jamming with the band. So we took it easy on Saturday. We played a game of Machiavelli and ate pizza, I had chats with Sanne, and that was pretty much our afternoon. I checked in with the boys during their jamsession, and then we watched the game. Holland - Russia, what a crying shame. Schade Holland alles ist vorbei. :( It’s now going to be Germany - Russia in the finals… although I wonder how far Turkey will come.

The Sunday was spent watching dr Who (which was GREAT, although what the hell happened to Billie Piper’s face? She talked as if she just had her wisdom teeth removed or something), going into town to eat sushi and ice cream, and ordering pasta. We wanted to go to a Japanese restaurant to celebrate our anniversary tomorrow, but we were both sleepy and wanted to cuddle up instead. Now we’re going for dinner tomorrow. :)

Battlestar Galactica, latest episode. HOLY FUCK.
The tension was killing me throughout the whole episode, it was all excellent, all so beautifully played out. And then the payoff… wow, just wow. 10/10. Might very well be the best episode of the whole series.

“Revelations”, indeed….
