she stole my heart, she took my soul

In the past few weeks Olli and I have been kind of doing a spring cleaning in our lives. Credit where credit’s due, most of this was on Olli’s initiative – the garage got an overhaul so it is now actually organised, we finally got rid of the conifers that were blocking the sunlight of the neighbours in the garden, bought some flowers to liven up our own garden, did the laundry heap of DESTINY, gave the kitchen a thorough cleaning… and we’re far from done yet.

The most important cleaning we’ve been doing is physically: by now Olli has quit smoking for over fourty days. Without any aid whatsoever, I’m so proud of him. He is doing really well too, he seems to be surprisingly okay with it. This in contrary to earlier attempts to quit – it seems he’s now quit for real. And in addition to that, we’re dieting. In my case it was very badly needed; I was so well on my way to gain back all the weight I lost last year that it wasn’t funny anymore. I also had a hard time fitting into my pants anymore :( So time for change – time to lose at least 5 kg before we go to Finland on vacation (six weeks from now). I’ve now lost 2kg in two weeks, which is something I’m very pleased with. (Three more kg to go before I’m satisfied) Of course Olli’s lost much more, but that’s the unfairness of males versus females for you ;)

Meanwhile I’ve watched through three seasons of True Blood in roughly a week, getting up to speed before the new season starts in a month or something. I’ve also started watching Game Of Thrones and so far I’m sitting on the fence: I love the designs and the way the world is brought to life, I love the actors – but I have the idea that anyone who hasn’t seen the books will have a hard time following what is happening and why you should care. But it’s definitely better than the Starz series Camelot, so that’s good.

My writing has been completely discarded lately – which is something I hate, because I do have the feeling I have stuff to tell. It’s just not coming out in words, it seems. :(

In happier news: Symphony of Agony managed to qualify for the Ninth Popmundo Festival! It’s terribly exciting, I’m so chuffed that we made it!

We ended up in a complete poule of death that we had to compete in… just like happened with Rebel Justice last year. But this year the girls and I managed to SMACK THE GODS very thoroughly and came in 2nd. The first three would be qualified – and with six bands playing a GS show things were incredibly tense there for a while. So we’re at least with the top 50 of best bands in Popo, which is hopeful.
Tomorrow we play our Festival show, as the second band to play. Our repertoire peaked a couple of days before and is on a sharp way downwards, but the good thing is that most of the competition has the same problem. We might do really well after all – who knows? If you wanna keep your fingers crossed at 11am… thanks :D

on the subject of fun new life experiences…

IMG_0632.JPGLast night I got a new life experience. But it wasn’t fun.
I got in a car accident and wrecked poor Tangy (our car, who I love dearly). I came back from a client in Eindhoven was getting on the highway, and immediately had to choose the left lane, because that’s where the road was diverging to Breda/Tilburg.

The traffic jam indicators said that everyone was going at 70 km/h so that’s the speed I was using to weave through the traffic. And right when I was getting on to the right lane & turning my steering wheel so I was properly in my lane, the indicator lights jumped to 50 km/h and everyone before me hit the brakes like crazy. And I was too late, so I crashed into the person before me.

Thank FUCK nobody died. My airbags inflated right on cue, so I was mostly just jostled about (my shoulder and neck muscles hurt today like no one’s business, but that’s to be expected) but the guy I hit had no airbags and had a serious slam on the neck, so he’ll be seeing his GP today. The towbar/towhook on the back of his car had completely folded itself into the car :S

Tangy was pretty wrecked too… the window was pretty nastily cracked, and there were some light indicators on the dashboard that said things about the exhaust (oh, and airbag fault, hehehe… poor Tangy, trying to warn me that my airbag doesn’t work anymore… just after it’s saved my life) and there’s a severe dent in the front. But judging from the speed by which I wrecked that towbar, I’m very afraid there’s damage on the inside as well.

Good thing we’re all risk secured. We called the alarm number, after which our lane was closed off from traffic (see picture – we felt all special, that guy I hit and me), filled in our damage forms for insurance, and the people came to tow my car away. The guy thought he was okay to drive anyway, so he left – hope he’ll be okay. At least his car could still drive. I was taken to the office of the towing company and there they ordered a cab for me. Pity that it took fucking forever though – I’ve waited for over an hour for that cab… by that time I just wanted to go home – it was 8.30pm and I hadn’t even eaten yet.

The cabbie was a sweetheart though, he enjoyed the fact that he got to take me all the way to Nuttyville – and he also took me to a MacDonalds where I could finally eat something. I wasn’t home until 11pm though. :(

So did I freak? You bet I freaked. I haven’t had a meltdown yet today (been awake for an hour) but last night I kept bursting into tears when I thought about what happened. I lost a second or two after the accident as well, and I just keep thinking that I could have killed someone. I feel terrible for wrecking Tangy too, and even though I know it’s just material damage I feel so damn guilty.

Everyone on twitter and on the phone has been nothing short but amazing though.
Thank you so much, love you all. <3
It’ll be okay. Now I just have to take it easy today.

relaxation to the max

Some time ago Lie got a gift coupon for two sauna visits, and because she’s awesome like that she decided to share the coupon with me. And today was the day! Lie has two weeks off and I had my Wednesday off, so we went to check out the nearest coupon-approved sauna, which turned out to be this place in Schiedam.

This morning Lie and I hopped in the car and went out on adventure. We were in Schiedam in no time, and found to our delight that this spa complex is made of AWESOME! It was even better than the sauna in Pijnacker. There were so many different sauna’s that we had to bail off after five – at that point it was already 4pm and we were getting lightheaded. They have a gorgeous, huge complex, a beautiful garden with hammocks that are perfect for snoozes (!), whirlpools, swimming pool, hamam, and saunas with aquariums, colors, standing on poles, a grotto sauna, one with music, one that plays movies, and the list goes on. The food and drinks were excellent too. It wasn’t cheap, even with the coupon, but it was completely and utterly worth it.

I can’t wait to go back and check out the other sauna’s. Lie and I emerged from the spa completely relaxed. And oh, my skin feels soooo smooth :D
