So this weekend, instead of rocking out at Lowlands 2010, Olli and I were home. It was something that was carefully considered and although I feel kind of sorry for not being there, I don’t feel as sorry as I feared I would. Last year’s debacle on the way home did spoil LL for me a little, I guess. And the fact that the festival sells out without even having the first bands of the lineup complete yet… that rubs me the wrong way as well. Despite loving me a good festival atmosphere, I go to festivals for the music first of all. And in that regard, I’m glad I’m not going to Lowlands. Because despite a few acts that I’d like to see (notably Serj Tankian + orchestra and Placebo), there’s nothing I was itching to see like I had with Graspop, or even Werchter.
So we’re thinking about going to Pukkelpop or Werchter next year instead. I guess we’re just suckers for the Belgian festivals or something.
Werchter will be edgy though, because that’s only a couple of days after Graspop, and while the hardcoreyness of the expedition appeals to me in some way, I also wonder if I’m up for it. Time will tell I suppose… we’ll just have to wait for the lineups next year.
Meanwhile I’m very glad that the Lowlands people got good weather this weekend, despite very doomy predictions earlier this week!
Also for ourselves. Olli and I had a good weekend just at the house with the two of us. Some quality lazy together-time that the both of us really needed… it’s strange how you can live in the same house without seeing much of each other sometimes. But we had good times. During Olli’s time at the jam studio I went to the hairdresser to get my hair cut and re-dyed (I was sporting Shakira-like roots that were showing, rather uncool). And while the cut turned out great, the re-dyeing of my roots didn’t go so well. So in the morning I had to go back and they highlighted the whole thing. I’m somewhat blonder than I was (seriously, I haven’t been this light-haired in YEARS!), but it looks rather cool. Also, I’ve been watching a lot of Eureka. I’m halfway season 3 now, and very much in love with the silly lightness of the show. It’s not pretending to be high art, but the characters are genuinely sympathetic and there’s enough fun in the series that you want to keep watching to see what happens now.
Olli and I went to the dog park with Bodhi as well, and this time he was off the leash the whole time. And it went great!! I’m so proud!! He did have a tendency to run ahead, but he would always wait up for us when we called out to him – or when we were out of view, he would search for us. Even when there would be other dogs involved that he wanted to play with. He’s focused on us enough to be able to go places with him without him on the leash now – things like the dog park and the beach. Walking next to roads is a big no no; if he sees something on the other side of the road, he’ll be gone before you know him and we’d never forgive ourselves if he’d be hit by a car. So we’re really proud of Bodhi, he’s doing so well at the moment.
We’re also able to leave him alone to go get groceries now, or to go to Feedback to check out new amps or something. Which is also something we did on Saturday. Of course then I had to fall in love with a pearly white Ibanez bass guitar with the most slender neck that I’ve ever seen… *sighs* I’ll be going to my bass guitar lessons weekly now, so if I do feel like I’m doing well enough, I’ll buy that bloody thing. It’s soooo gorgeous. Maybe to celebrate, when I can play “21 Guns” by heart, or something.
Oh, and as for what we did today? Olli downloaded Warehouse 13 this weekend. We just finished Season 1. Speaking of which, I think he wants to watch more episodes before bedtime. So I’ll be off. Later
